Google Maps Gets a Makeover [VIDEO]

Google Maps has gotten a fresh new look, adding some "visual improvements" to its design.

[More from Mashable: Hurricane Sandy Forces Google to Cancel Android Event] The application now lets users get a clearer view of natural geography by showing terrain and color gradations to illustrate vegetation.

It also includes labels for natural land formations. "This enriched visual data allows you to quickly and easily see where the great forests, deserts and mountain ranges around the world begin and end," Maps software engineer Karl Johann Schmidt said in a Friday blog post.

"It also conveys how natural land formations can impact where, how and why man-made developments like urban cities, dams and bridges are made."

Its goal is to further buttress Google Maps as the most complete and accurate global mapping service, Schmidt added.

He then posted some examples of Maps before and before the makeover: Southern Asia - Before Southern Asia - After Vancouver, Canada - Before Vancouver, Canada - After South America - Without "Amazon Basin" label South America - With "Amazon Basin" label.
