15 megabits / s via satellite

Abandoned for ADSL and cable, there is a solution that continues to evolve: the satellite. And the U.S. supplier offering a new HughesNet, the "Gen4". With this new offering, flows increase: 15 Mb / s downstream and 2 Mbit / s transmission, or values close to a good ADSL connection.

Limits, as often If the rates are attractive, the price is not $ 50 Basic (10/1), $ 80 for the offer "Pro" (10/2) and $ 100 for the offer "Max" (15 / 2). Then there is obviously the latency (ping), which is high. This limitation will never be removed: it depends on the distance between the satellites and the ground will remain high. In absolute terms, the minimum latency is 240 ms, excluding the latency between the ISP and the server.

Unlike some European ISPs, HughesNet still imposes limits on volumes. Management is quite complicated: Subscribers receive 10, 15 or 20 GB of data transfer per month, with 10, 15 or 20 GB in addition to use during "peak hours" (2:00 to 8:00 am). In some offers, there is also a daily limit beyond which the speed limit is reportable but the next day (and combined). In the end, the offer is interesting for people who can not access the Internet with more conventional means (without limitation), even if the rates are high.
