NASA rendezvous with the ISS

To mark 12 years of the ISS, NASA has unveiled its new service, available to individuals and to create appointments between earth and space.

The application for the occasion called "Spot the Station" should facilitate the work of observers by indicating when the station is visible to them. The online software makes it possible, once registered, to receive SMS and Emails, preventing the user directly on their smartphone that the ISS is in sight.

Calculations made by the Johnson Space Center are currently available for 4600 locations around the globe, to indicate whether the station is high enough in the sky not obscured by trees, terrain or buildings.

Remember that there is no need to arm themselves with a telescope to cross the station, the ISS is the second brightest point of our night sky after the moon. observation with the naked eye can resemble a star moving slowly.

Note that if the initiative is laudable, other applications directly available on Android and iOS already proposed a similar function without automatic alert system, but without geographical restriction.
